Homeopathy
captured an enviable recognition in the American public, during the first half
of 1800. Almost 20% of doctors were practicing Homeopathy in those years. In
1842, the Homeopathy practicing doctors constituted American Institute of
Homeopathy (AIH). After four years, American Medical Association (AMA) was
established in opposition to the AIH. Members of the AMA were discouraged on
consulting a homeopath, and finally they were prohibited from practicing
Homeopathy. While the system was in the pinnacle of glory, in 1890 Mark Twain,
acknowledged the special value of Homeopathy in Harpers Magazine: "The

The steep
progress of homeopathy was nearly extinguished by the mid 1900s. In 1970, there
were merely 50-100 homeopathic specialized physicians. However, after 10 years

demand and again began to flourish in the Unites States. According to

consumer organization surveyed its 28,000 members and discovered that 80% had
used some form of complementary medicine and that 70% of those who had tried
homeopathy were cured or improved by it. Not only is there growing interest

conventional physicians. The British medical Journal recently published a
survey of the attitudes of British physicians toward practitioners of
complementary medicine. The survey discovered that 42% of the physicians surveyed
refer patients to homeopathic physicians. A different study published in The
Times of London found that 48% of physicians referred patients to homeopathic
physicians. British Medical Journal, which noted that in a survey of 100,
recently graduated British physicians, 80% expressed an interest in being
trained in homeopathy, acupuncture or hypnosis.
IN FRANCE
The
impressive growth in the United Kingdom is being matched in France. A survey of
French doctors revealed that approximately 11,000 of them used Homeopathic
medicines. More than 25% of French have tried or being used homeopathic
medicines. More than 20,000 pharmacies sell Homeopathic medicines. There are
six medical schools offering degree in Homeopathy. Homeopathy is taught in all
pharmacy and veterinary schools. "Le Nouvel Observateur" the magazine
had an editorial as a survey report. It concludes as "Homeopathy obtain
results, sometimes spectacular results"
IN AUSTRIA
In 1830, the
practice of homeopathy became illegal in Austria. Despite its illegality, a
very good number of people used homeopathic medicines during the cholera
epidemic in 1831. Statistics show that those with cholera who tried homeopathy
had a mortality rate between 2.4 to 2.1% whereas over 50% of those with cholera
under conventional medicine care died.
HOMEOPATHY IN SOUTH AMERICA
Homeopathy is
not as popular in South America as it is in Europe or Asia. One of Argentina's
most respected homeopathic physicians, Dr.Francisco Eizayaga, has estimated
that there are now approximately 2,000 doctors in Argentina who practice
homeopathy and approximately 3 million of Argentina's 30 million people have
used homeopathic medicines.

Homeopathy is

homeopathic medicines. Laymen are not permitted to practice homeopathy there.
In Curitiba city alone there are more than 50 homeopathic pharmacies.
Pharmacists in Brazil are required to take a course in homeopathic pharmacology
in order to graduate. There are at least 10 homeopathic schools in Brazil and
several conventional schools have course in Homeopathy. Brazil has monthly
homeopathic congress conducted partly by the government fund.
HOMEOPATHY IN INDIA
Homeopathy is
more popular in Asian countries especially India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, than
Europe and America. Homeopathy received the moral support from Mahatma Gandhi.

" Homeopathic treatment seems well suited for use in rural areas where the

Indian subcontinent the legal position of the practitioners of homeopathy has
been elevated to a professional level similar to that of an allopathic medical
practitioner."

governments or universities maintain many of them. There are graduate (Bachelor
of Homeopathic Medicine & surgery) and postgraduate courses (MD) in
Homeopathy. Some of the state governments are conducting courses for
homeopathic pharmacists and homeopathic nurses. The number of licensed
homeopathic doctors is around 800000. Nearly 20% of Indian public depend on
homeopathy for their health care needs. In India, there are hundreds of State
and Central government owned homeopathic hospitals having inpatient facility.
There are thousands of State and Central government owned dispensaries having
out patient facility. There are thousands of homeopathic pharmacies and around
150 homeopathic laboratories in the country. Central and State government owned
